It’s Official, LA Has Ruined Dro’s Career

DOWNLOAD: Young Dro ft. Yung LA – Don’t Know Y’all
OK, well maybe not his career but LA’s influence on Dro has killed any hopes that I had for Dro to become one of the next legends from the south. I’ve been biting my tongue on Dro’s evolution into this Black Boy/White Boy thing for awhile but this song has me incredibly disappointed, to the point that I probably won’t be checking for P.O.L.O. If someone would have asked me a year ago what albums I was anticipating the most, Dro’s Young and the Restless would have been at the top of the list. His debut proved that he was a superb lyricist and left me wanting more. When I heard rumors that he was getting records from Kayne West my anticipation grew. But now I’m left looking elsewhere to find respectable country rap tunes.
While his flow is still tight as ever (evidenced by the Ain’t I remix), LA has somehow convinced Dro that rapping singing with emotion that I can only describe as teenage angst (think the rap version of rock’s emo) is the move. Which may be cool for LA since that’s his swag but I had higher hopes for a truly gifted rapper like Dro.
When I met him 3 years ago at grand hustle the thing I loved about him the most if the fact that he just wanted to bust on everything. He kept a crate full of notebooks full of verses and was ready to knock a couple records out every day. He didn’t give a fuck about whatever the particular movement of the time was and made music strictly for the sake of having dope songs. That’s why even though at the time no one (except a few) knew he was I wanted to get a full tape with him. I knew people would respect his raw flow, originality and hilarious personality. And they did. Dro came up to me 3 days after I Still Got That Dro tape dropped and said “I have FANS now. I never had that before. People are coming up to me now saying they are a FAN of mine.” Later that month when “Shoulder Lean” blew up, the rest of the world was exposed to his explosive, off-kilter flow. At that moment I was sure I was witnessing the beginning of someone’s career who could possibly become lengedary in the vein of UGK and Eightball & MJG.
Now I’m not saying that he’s through with and won’t accomplish shit. Even though I may not like this new Dro, obviously some people are. And maybe this stuff ends up being catchier than whatever “real” records he would have made that would have pleased the minority like me but I can’t help but imagine what kind of music dude would have made if he had a passion for the classics like say Rick Ross has. Hopefully, this is just a phase and Dro will record an album full of lush production with witty wordplay and deep subject matter. Until then I guess I’m just left with this.

Deep analyzation bro…Good shit nonetheless!

I was kind of over the whole “Black Boy/White Boy” thing from the jump…
I do love Dro on most tracks even when they corny, but I gotta agree with BurnOne here and say that this is not what I was hoping for in the direction of 1 of my favorite MC’s!!!

@mark p. Not really but I did kick it with him for a minute at the studio about 2 weeks ago. Maybe I’ll do a video interview with him or something. I’d like to see what he has to say too.

Also, would we able to get an upload of the Bohagon “Future Legends Vol. 1″ mixtape? I can’t find that shit anywhere. The Dro tape is probably the best shit he ever did.

It’s a bit tragic that someone who’s able to do such a great song as “clean wit it” can be influenced by a an incredbily inferior artist like yung la.
