After an impressive showing on SMKA’s 808 Experiment Vol 2, Aleon Craft is pairing up with the production squad for a full-length album titled “The Prologue Pt 1″, which I guess means it’s the prologue to the prologue. In any case, the team’s got chemistry. This beat is the epitome of space-age funk. Those sprinkly keys are reminiscent of Polow’s “Hero” beat but SMKA brought in an ultra groovy bassline that makes it entirely distinct from “Hero”. Aleon on this song has a similar flow to Yung LA, but with lyrics and subjects that are about a million times more interesting and creative. So far we’ve heard nothing but smoker’s anthems from these guys but I sure as hell don’t have any complaints. Higher quality versions of this song are available at Aleon’s BandCamp site where you will also be able to find The Prologue Pt 1 next Monday, March 15.
G Fella hooked up with Gorilla Zoe, and Supplya for this in the studio performance from one of Gorilla Zoe’s 28 mixtape’s with DJ Burn One.

From NPR Music:
Illmatic, Nas’ 1994 paean to and from New York’s Queensbridge projects, is considered by many to be the pinnacle of hip-hop — its Sgt. Pepper’s or Citizen Kane. So it’d be an understatement to say that the Huntsville, Ala., duo G-Side was sticking its neck out when it decided to remake the emotional centerpiece of that album, “The World Is Yours.” But in “Who’s Hood?” G-Side does justice to the original, proving that the line between the largest housing project in the country and the fourth largest city in Alabama is surprisingly thin.
G-Side’s in-house producers in Block Beattaz change up the classic by borrowing the same iconic piano loop from Ahmad Jamal, but they replace Pete Rock’s soft-filtered samples with mechanical 808 drum kicks (drums are often where hip-hop draws its Mason-Dixon Line). Fellow Alabamian guest Yelawolf twists up syllables and plays close to the tone of Nas’ nostalgic self-loathing, aiming Krylon cans at the Bible Belt instead of guns at baby pictures, but G-Siders ST and Clova cast a wider net. When he was recording Illmatic, Nas was the most buzzed-about rapper on the planet. He had a major recording contract, and his idea of grandiose was Dom P and a Gandhi VHS. G-Side is a virtual unknown, and it’s already thinking internationally. “You can’t run the corners from the corners,” as ST puts it. To Nas, the corners made up the entirety of his world. G-Side’s members might run their ‘hood, but they also see the whole world from those confines.
Congrats to G-Side, who are proving one step at a time that you can turn internet buzz into something real. By joining the likes of Peter Gabriel on NPR’s SXSW Song of the Day series, they will be able to reach an entirely new and different audience. You can catch them at the NPR SXSW Showcase on March 18th at Stubb’s in Austin, TX.

Brand new from the Sports Sunday series. Props to Maurice Garland for being the first to post this one.

ATL Style!! Time to get back to my BLVDST roots and throw up some of that classic A-town shit. Here’s a rare remix to Outkast’s epic jam “Spottieottiedopaliscious” off what’s probably my favorite album of all time, Aquemini. It’s produced by legendary ATL representer Carl Mo (Gangsta Shit, The Way You Move, Vica Versa, Bite Down). Mo manages to maintain the same laid back type of the original while still making it his own by adding some dope bass drums and keys that bring it all together. Stay tuned, next week I’ll be dropping another classic Carl Mo record.
